Province 8 of the Brotherhood of Saint Gregory includes the Western United States matching the geography of Province VIII of The Episcopal Church. The current Minister Provincial for our province is Brother Richard Edward Helmer, BSG, who resides in Corte Madera, California, and serves at Church of Our Saviour in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco.
The Province was established in 2002. At present, there are six professed brothers in this province located in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Mill Valley/Corte Madera, California; Denver, Colorado; and Tucscon, Arizona. Our members are single or living with their families, engaged in a variety of community ministries specific to the particular talents of each. BSG is a particularly thoughtful and engaged bunch whom Louis Crew often refers to affectionately as “our wonderful Anglican Jesuits!” Province 8 is no exception with writers; two priests; spiritual directors; a filmmaker; a hairstylist; a philosopher and IT professional... How did we get so lucky?
In addition to their ministries, the brothers pray the four hours (Morning, Noon, Evening, and Night) of the Daily Office in keeping with the Rule of the Brotherhood of St. Gregory. The Daily Office can be found as a web app online at the BSG website.
